The Massachusetts General Laws require the School Committee to adopt written policies, rules and regulations not inconsistent with law, which may relate to study, discipline, conduct, safety and welfare of all students, or any classification thereof, enrolled in the public schools of the District. Framingham Public Schools is committed to partnering with parents and guardians in order to promote optimal, safe learning environments.
The implementation of the Code of Character, Conduct, and Support is the responsibility of the Principal and the professional staff of the building.
The purpose of disciplinary action is to provide student accountability, restore order and/or safety when students engage in unskillful behaviors. Students demonstrating unskillful behavior will be subject to disciplinary action and interventions that align to the Code of Character, Conduct, and Support and match the academic, social, and emotional needs for students who are experiencing persistent challenges and support the student to learn more skillful behaviors. Most of the situations which require disciplinary action can be resolved within the confines of the classroom or as they occur by reasonable but firm reprimand, and/or by teacher conferences with the student and/or parents or guardians.
If a situation should arise in which there is no applicable written policy, the staff member, in collaboration with school based administrators, shall be expected to exercise reasonable and professional judgment in alignment with the philosophy of the Code of Character, Conduct, and Support
All student handbooks shall contain the provisions of M.G.L. c.71:37H, 37H1/2 and 37H3/4.
Copies of the handbooks are available to each student on the website and by hard copy, if requested. Parents/guardians of students in grades K-12 will digitally acknowledge receipt of said handbooks.
