File:  IHAMA - SEXUALITY EDUCATION PARENT NOTIFICATION

Pursuant to Chapter 71, Section 32A of the Massachusetts General Laws, the Ashland School Committee directs the Superintendent to ensure timely parental/guardian notification of any curriculum used in the Ashland Schools which primarily involves human sexuality issues or human sexuality education.

This policy shall be distributed annually to each Principal in the district.

This policy allows parents/guardians the flexibility to exempt their children from any portion or completely from the curriculum being offered. Parents must write a letter within two weeks after receiving notification, to their child's Principal, exempting them from participating. No child, exempted at parent's request, shall be penalized.

The Principal or designee will notify parents in advance of the curriculum presentation. This will be done in writing. To the extent practical, program materials will be made available for review.

The Principal or designee will determine which alternative educational experience will be offered.

The Policy Committee shall be responsible for routine review of this policy.
